i just got my olympus digital voice recorder today for recording lectures when i go to guide dog school and let me tell u, this thing is extremely sweet! it is very accessible for blind users and it has 145 or so hours of digital high quality recording time on it. definitely will give the recorder 2 thumbs up!

I got the DS40 for my Birthday. When I looked on the RNIB website, it implied that the DS30 didn't have any voice guidance, which really would've pissed me off somewhat, so I burnt an even bigger hole in my poor mother's plastic and went for the DS40, which I intend to use a lot if and when I find work/employment, for meetings, taking notes at my desk or when I'm with work colleagues. I've been test driving it a lot over Christmas at home with my family, especially when my favourite 9-month-old cousin's on the scene, lol. I got some brilliant audio clips of him for some excellent memories now.

Jen.

oh goodness i dont know the model number. i got the one that is just a voice recorder. i didnt get the one with the USB port because DBS suggested against it because according to them, the ones with the USB port always falls apart. 5 of them have fallen apart according to my instructer.

actually this one does not have speech guidance which does not bother me. it does, however, have distinct audio beeping guidance.. 1 beep for folder 1, 2 beeps for folder 2, etc. also it has distinct beeps to let u know when your olympus recorder is clear of files.

Er yeh! A lot of us have a different user name to our Christian names on here you know. For example, my real name (or rather the shortened version) is Jen, but my user name's Hedwig, the coolest, little animal character from Harry Potter, so I'm hardly likely to forget that in a hurry, lol. Anyway, the DS40 recorder has both high pitched and low pitched bleeps plus speech guidance, so you know for certain which folders you're recording in, which you're uploading from on to your laptop/PC, you know when you're recording, you know when your batteries die, Etc Etc.

joanne, try stores like amazon, bestbuy, stuff like that. also blind bargains might help you out. not sure, but also, ebay? I bought Lisa's and mine online. Also, to whomsoever said it, somanea was it? The ds30 does have voice guidance, and has lasted us pretty well, so not sure where they got that one from. Culd be right though, I'll let you know when it happens lol. Ah actually it was Jen talking about no voice guidance, apologies lol. Thing is jen ya got a good model anyway, more memory, always a good thing. Rainbow, Lisa = charisma on here, my fiancee. It was she to whom I refered when I spoke of Lisa both in this and my previous post.

I got mine off of ebay and use it for class lectures.

yeah that is what i am going to use mine for. lectures at the guide dog school. and i think i will go back to college after i get back. oh btw, how do u set the recording sensativity? it is on high quality recording, and my voice sounds scratchy when i test it, although when i speak into the mic, my voice is clear, not scratchy.

i played around with it by holding in the menu button and pressing the right arrow 3 times. it took it off of the strange scratchy recordings. so now it sounds normal again.

SWEET! Yeah. I bought a DS40 in September for the intention of using it in school and other things for stereo recordings. It's awesome, and the microphone's aren't bad either. I'm a person who likes to make recordings like some people take photos. lol. I agree. Two thumbs up for them! They rock!

Does this digital recorder come with microphones so it will record in stereo automatically?
